Writing Rules

This page explains how to prepare a manuscript for Simbisa Community Empowerment. Please read it together with the Submissions page before you submit.

What the journal publishes

The journal publishes conceptual work and research findings from community service activities. Recent articles cover MSME digitalization and financial management, farming and local-economy programs, inclusive education and social reintegration. A good manuscript describes the community, the problem it faced, the approach taken and what was learned or achieved.

Preparing your manuscript

  • Title. Keep it concise and specific.
  • Abstract. It must be able to stand on its own, so that readers and reviewers understand the study without the full text.
  • Keywords. Choose terms that describe the topic, the community and the method.
  • Structure. Present the study design and the argument in a clear, well-organised way.
  • References. Check every reference for accuracy and completeness.
  • Tables and figures. Number and label all of them.
  • Permissions. Obtain permission to publish all photos, datasets and other material, and make sure all authors agree to be listed.
  • Ethics. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an ethics committee in line with the legal requirements of the study's country.

Format check

Manuscripts that do not follow the writing criteria or are prepared in an unsuitable format may be rejected before a more thorough evaluation. An editor may also desk reject a submission that does not meet minimum standards of quality.

How to submit

Register with the journal or log in, then follow the five-step online submission process: upload your files, identify co-authors and provide the title, abstract and other details. You can save a submission and come back to it later. See Submissions for the checklist.
